A physical exam is a medical evaluation performed by a healthcare professional to assess your overall health status. Although they are a routine part of medical care, each physical exam is tailored to your unique needs and health concerns.

Why do I need a work physical if I recently had an annual exam?
Different types of physicals serve different purposes. Even if you completed an annual physical recently, you may still need a work physical because it focuses on job-specific health requirements. At Costa Mesa Medical Clinic, we provide a variety of physical exams, including:

• Work physicals:
  These evaluations help confirm that you can safely perform your job duties and may include a drug test when required by your employer.
   
• Annual physicals:
  A comprehensive review of your overall health that aims to detect issues early—before they become complications.
   
• School physicals:
  We care for patients of all ages, including children and teens who need physicals before starting school. Our team can administer vaccinations, complete required forms, and ensure your child is ready for the school year.
   
• Sports physicals:
  These exams identify health concerns that could interfere with safe athletic participation, helping reduce the risk of injury. School and sports physicals can also be completed during your child’s annual wellness visit.
   

What should I expect during a physical exam?
Your physical at Costa Mesa Medical Clinic will depend on the purpose of the visit, your age, health history, and any symptoms or concerns you may have. Regardless of the reason, you can expect a detailed and attentive evaluation.
After your exam, you’ll receive a follow-up phone call within two days, along with a complimentary follow-up visit within seven days. We also provide a copy of your lab results for your records.
